Once you make your first stone axe you can get branches more easily by cutting down trees. if you are building solely as an axe man, going for pacifist might be worth it. you only need axe and maintenance for combat. and the boost is covered by handyman and brawler. My suggestion would be to look for survivor houses in Rosewood (houses with boards already on them) as that's usually my go to for axes in a town after a fire department.
