As long as the fuel system is funtioning correctly, you can vary that by several degrees and you'll know by the rpm's at idle in gear when you have it right. 1) Set the cam follower on the carb linkage to line up with the small mark on the cam. 2) With a timing light hooked up to#1 cyl, and the engine idling- set the pickup timing at 4 deg ATDC for this engine. 3) It says to advance the timing by lengthening the throttle rod and retard the timing by shortening the rod.Step 3: Pickup of the throttle.
