sororities were chartered on Duke’s campus for the first time. The advent of these sororities filled a critical gap in the lives of black women on campus. Before the founding of chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta at Duke many black women attested to sufferinguniversity, will be complementary to Duke’s mission and vision for student culture. Although the ZTA experience begins in college, it extends far beyond four years. The ZTA experience is made up of many parts. Sisters are connected to a large network of over 235,000 women, which provides countless opportunities.As mentioned above, for the most part, Greek life has moved off campus. If I remember correctly, all sororities and all but 2 fraternities have disaffiliated from Duke in the last three years (for an array or reasons, but two large ones being Covid related restrictions and just not being able to work with the university’s student affairs offices in a productive manner)
