Blackhorn 209 volume to weight conversion
Nit Wit, mine hasn't either but I'd like to use 209 Blackhorn powder with one of them for obvious reasons, and my White Lightning didn't ignite every time with percussion caps when I tried it. Good thread because I am a centerfire reloader and for the first time decided to weigh the 100 grains of BH209 I have been measuring out of my clear TC volume measurer. Per Western Powders, 100 grains by volume of BH209 is 70 grains weighed on a scale. My TC powder measure at 100 grains by volume was 72-73 grains on my electronic scale.

And I will now admit this.. I know the rifle I was shooting today likes 100 grains of Pyrodex RS. It is my Knight Disc (original model) with a lehigh conversion. The rifle wears a Nikon Pro Staff 2-7x32mm (which I believe is a great scope). I downloaded a chart from their website and wanted to start out with the suggested 70grn.weight to 100gr.by volume ratio. If you go to the Black Horn site, they will warn you not to use their powder in plunger style rifles for safety reasons.From my research, I'm seeing 120 gr by volume (84 gr by weight) for the blackhorn 209. On Killing Time's information he's right in using caution with the BH 209 powder. What I found was the optimum load for my USAK was 85 grains (by volume) of BH 209 and I had great accuracy out to 150 yards and no blow back. When I experimented around 100 grains I felt that perhaps it was just a tad too much.Re: Blackhorn 209 and Thor bullets- first impression. Comparing BH to any of the Pyro's and loading grain for grain you will see a difference of about 10-15% in the increase of velocity. So back to your question.... 120 grains of BH vs. 150 grains of Pyro... I have owned my Knight Disk 50 for many years and love it. I have shot many load configurations and all have shot well out to 150yds. Currently I am shooting 125grns of Blackhorn 209, Knight/hornady 300grn big game bullets, Federal 209 primer and they are nasty.For the cva rifles the easiest thing to do is pick up a breach plug for bh209, in really supposed they haven't gotten on like the others have and got rid of the flat faces breech plugs. The pellets ignite just fine in the Thompson center omega/encore breech plugs and they are perfect for bh209 as well.
