If I do the quest earlier in the game, I help Kematu. If I do the quest later in the game, I help Saadia. My theory is that they are both working for the Thalmor while thinking they are working against them just like the two sides of the Civil War and the thalmor want them to kill each other. With that being said. I think it would matter if you tried to kill yourself, simply because you're putting yourself in a worse position if you don't die. If you do die, you were meant to die anyway, and you would have died somehow else if not by your own hand. But if not.. Life's just gonna suck that much more..
