Granted it’s in the light side ending, but the light side ending is always the canon ending, so they don’t really need to do anything except a passing mention in future media that Malachor V was destroyed almost 4,000 years ago in an unknown event that took place after the Jedi Civil War(KOTOR I). It's not. But some small pieces of it have been made canon by canon material. The details of the story are still not canon, but clearly the Old Republic was an era that existed and there was a Sith named Revan roaming around.
